• Who's Hammerpoint Interactive?

    Hammerpoint Interactive is a startup game development company formed in early 2011 by industry veterans with decades of combined game development experience. Prior to forming Hammerpoint, members of the team worked on titles, such as Call of Duty BlackOps and BlackOps2, Star Trek Online, League of Legends, World of Tanks, Guitar Hero, MechWarrior (yes the old ones) and more. The team is currently working on two games - one of them being The War Z and another that has not yet been announced.

  • Who's Arktos Interactive Group ?

    Arktos Entertainment Group LLC is a Los Angeles based, private equity and investment company founded by Sergey Titov - ex Technical Director of Riot Games. The company funds cool game projects and also heavily invests in the development of next generation online game engine technology. We met them when we started doing contract development for Online Warmongers Group - a portfolio company of Arktos, and the developers of War Inc. Battle Zone, a free-to-play online shooter (you can check it out here - http://www.thewarinc.com ). At that time we were creating a prototype of War Z using UDK and when we got our hands on their own Eclipse engine we were super impressed. So when Sergey offered to back the development and provide the engine license, we agreed.

  • How are you guys making this game in only a year ?

    Well, we're not really developing from scratch. The design and idea for The War Z has been in place for a couple of years - we only just started developing the specific features for the game in the past year. Our team has decades of experience and we are utilizing technology that has been around for several years now and has proven itself in games with over 2 million online players worldwide. We're also relying on a mass of data collected by our friends at Online Warmongers while operating War Inc. Battle Zone.


  • The War Z - is it an MMORPG or shooter?

    It's little of both and sort of neither of either ;) The War Z is first and foremost a "sandbox" survival game. We're creating an open world for players to live in, explore and ultimately create their own experience. There are no character levels or unrealistic stats, skills or abilities to learn and new players just joining the game will be on almost the same level playing field as a player that has been playing for a month.

  • You've mentioned Skills - what does that mean?

  • Do you have storyline or quests in a game?

    There is a back story to the game, but as far as there being a storyline that players need to follow within the game - the answer is no. The gameplay is designed to be open world sandbox so that players really have the opportunity to create their own, unique experience. We don't define any quests that you have to complete in order to obtain items in the game. However, players will be able to create their own quests and missions for other players and then post rewards for completing those missions. Once again - we just provide the tools and the players create the experience.

  • What are system requirements?

    If your computer has at least 2GB of RAM, has video card that supports Shader Model 3.0 - then you should be able to play The War Z.


  • Is the game free to play or is there a subscription model?

    Neither. The game will be available at launch as a single-purchase download with no payments required to play after that. No subscriptions or hidden fees. You'll be able to spend money in the game for items of convenience or to rent game servers.

  • You mentioned that there will be a store or marketplace in the game. Is it micro-transaction based?

    As you explore the game world, you'll find two types of currency - Dollars and Gold Coins. Both can be used for barter between players if you want or to purchase certain consumables (food, medicine, ammo) at the General Store in one of the safe settlements and in the Marketplace in the frontend. Not all items that you find in the world will be purchasable, and by no means do you need to use the store at all - everything can be found in the game world.

  • I want PAY FOR WIN! I have lots of money to spend!

    Sorry pal, but this is the wrong game. Like in a real-world, post apocalyptic scenario, your money will mean much less than your natural survival skills, training and wits.


  • Who's hosting the game servers?

    We're handling hosting and management of all game servers. We're not relying on players to buy and install and host game servers in order to connect to and enjoy the game.

  • Will I be able to host or rent my own private server?

    Yes, not only that - you'll be able to rent a game server from inside the user interface without leaving the game. You will be able to choose server settings, configure things like public or private, password protection, allocate certain number of slots for your friends and clan members, etc.

  • What is limit of players per server?

    When renting a server you'll be able to choose between a predefined number of player slots. The lowest amount of players per server is 70 and the maximum is 250.

  • What's about lag?

    We feel really confident about the issue of lag since War Inc. Battle Zone uses the same engine and is able to host a very fast-paced, precise action shooting game, with up to 64 players per map and only three datacenter locations - East Coast USA, Netherlands and Russia. That and the fact that players from Australia have been dominating the leaderboards. We've also improved the network code to produce even better results.


  • When game will be released ?

    We're planning to officially launch the game this Fall.

  • When you start closed Beta ?

    We're planning on starting closed beta in Fall 2012.

  • How I can get into beta ?

    Register for the closed Beta on the website (http://www.thewarz.eu). We will be selecting people that are active on the official forums, official Facebook page and helping to grow the community. We also will be offering early guaranteed access to the closed beta to everyone that preorders the game.
